This is the image for the news article titled 5th Grade ScientistsHow do scientists visual something as big and complex as the water cycle? In order to understand how something works, scientists often build models.   How can you build a model of the water cycle? Ask any of our 5th graders and they will not only tell you how, they will show you!  Using soil, water, rocks, and grass, students built a model world in a rotisserie chicken container graciously donated by Harris Teeter in New Bern.  After a few hours in the sun, the water began the process of evaporation, the grass and leaves began transpiration, and the dome clouded up.  Soon condensation appeared, as well. Once this water vapor gets heavy enough, perhaps precipitation will happen in our little worlds.
