This is the image for the news article titled Engineering a Whole School ProjectEngineering students began with an idea and a problem to solve, as most engineering challenges begin. The idea was to join the world-wide “Whirled Peace” project and the problem was how do you get an entire school involved and successfully building pinwheels. First, the engineering students tested several pinwheel designs. After getting stuck with pins and having pinwheels not spin, they created a design that even a kindergartener could do. Then they created both video and written directions for a pin-less, but effective, design. A 7th grade class provided feedback and after this beta testing, and they were ready to go live. Teachers signed up for help and both the high school and middle school students taught the elementary students how to build the pinwheels. It was a moment of pride when the whole school came together on September 21st to celebrate International Day of Peace.
