Seniors Attend Job Fair
On March 21, four high school seniors, David Lester, Cameron Simpson, Andre McNeil, and Eric Stone traveled after school to the New Bern Convention Center and attended the NC Craven Works jobs fair. Seventy-nine regional businesses were on hand seeking applicants for the area's rapidly expanding 21st century workforce. These ACS seniors were equipped with resume packets and returned with several prospects and applications for employment after graduation, June 2.

Team Bobcat Robotics Brings Home Trophies
This past weekend, the Arapahoe Charter School FIRST Robotics Team (Team Bobcat) competed in their first tournament, the Pitt County District Event. At the end of the two-day competition, the team, which had been only working during school lunch to build a robot, had made it to the semi-finals! “The feeling was that of both success and relief” said Elijah Buckout, one of the drive team members for Team Bobcat, “to know that we accomplished so much in our very first tournament was truly spectacular.” The team was also awarded, twice! 2017 Highest Rookie Seed (12th out of a total of 30 teams competing) 2017 Rookie Inspiration Award “Words are inadequate to express how proud I am of our team,” said Mr. Ray Marks, the robotics team’s mentor, “It was amazing to see the team progress from not knowing what to do, to getting recognition from veteran teams for our solid playing style, specifically our defense.”

Read Across America Week Was a Huge Success!
Read Across America week was a huge success at ACS! Students and teachers celebrated the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel aka Dr.Seuss. Each day was themed after a Dr.Seuss story. On Fox in Socks Monday, students wore their craziest & mismatched socks. On Green Eggs & Ham Tuesday, students dressed in green. On Horton Hears a Who Wednesday, students shared an act of kindness. On The Cat & the Hat Thursday, students dressed as their favorite Dr.Seuss character or wore red, black, and white. Read Across America Day is celebrated across the entire country and is the largest celebration to promote reading. 2017 was the 20th year of Read Across America Day.

Robotics Team Enters Competition
Arapahoe Charter School Bobcats are ready to take flight! This year, a team of high schoolers is competing for the first time in the FIRST Robotics Competition! The FIRST Robotics Competition was founded by entrepreneur and inventor, Dean Kamen, in 1992. It started with a small competition of 28 teams in Manchester, NH. Since then, it has become an international competition, with teams from 11 countries competing, including teams from Israel, Great Britain, Canada, and Brazil. In this program, students are given the opportunity to not only work with engineering mentors but also to network with thousands of other students from around the world and obtain scholarships from major engineering colleges across the United States!
