Free COVID Testing For Students Is Now Available
It is now time to register your children for free COVID-19 testing! In conjunction with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Arapahoe Charter School is providing COVID-19 testing on site at our school. In order for your student to participate in the free testing, you will need to register your student. This is an optional program and no testing of your child will occur unless parents complete the registration process.
Keeping Kids Safe
We recommend all families participate in this free program because we believe that it is a great option for several reasons. Testing at school is convenient, is accurate PCR testing, and results are available in about 24 hours. This allows students who have symptoms and test negative to return quickly to the classroom.
How it Works
A parent or guardian must complete the registration form. Once registered, your child will be routinely tested once a week. Weekly screening tests detect illness in asymptomatic individuals and individuals before they develop symptoms, which allows the school to contain illness before it spreads. COVID-19 variants are spreading throughout the United States and research shows routine testing can reduce the spread of COVID-19 by 50%, especially in large settings such as schools. In addition to routine screening testing, diagnostic testing will be offered for students who develop symptoms of COVID.
The testing swab used is an anterior nares nasal swab test that is quick and gentle. Click here to see a video of testing in action here.
Registration takes about 2 minutes. Parents will give a one-time consent and HIPAA authorization. All testing information is confidential and parents will be notified of results via email or text.
Register your student today: Arapahoe Charter COVID 19 Testing Registration https://home.color.com/covid/
sign-up/start?partner=tf-ara- 1052-students *** The first two questions of the registration are not applicable, but must be answered due to software limitations**

Free COVID Testing Information Information Session
Arapahoe Charter School has a special opportunity to

The Emergency Broadband Benefit is an FCC program to help families and households struggling to afford internet service during the COVID-19 pandemic. This new benefit will connect eligible households to jobs, critical healthcare services, virtual classrooms, and so much more.
About the Emergency Broadband Benefit
The Emergency Broadband Benefit will provide a discount of up to $50 per month towards broadband service for eligible households and up to $75 per month for households on qualifying Tribal lands. Eligible households can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers if they contribute more than $10 and less than $50 toward the purchase price.

Mask Plan in Effect
Masks are optional for all Arapahoe Charter School students and employees when the new school year starts in August. The only exception is on school buses where everyone must wear a mask as mandated by the CDC.
ACS Executive Director, Chris Watson, says the board voted unanimously to make masks optional, or the parent’s choice.
“We have listened to the community and determined this is the best course at this time. In addition to community input, the board has worked very closely with the health department and will continue monitoring government agencies such as the CDC,” says Mr. Watson.
Existing protocols such as cleaning the school and having disposable masks available for kids, teachers and visitors are in place. Going forward, the board will monitor our plan and make adjustments if needed. We thank our Arapahoe Charter School family for your cooperation.

COVID Exposure Update
This is an update from Arapahoe Charter School regarding Monday’s COVID exposure.
In conjunction with the Pamlico County Health department, it has been determined that all students are considered at low risk for COVID-19 transmission and are not required to quarantine at this time.
It is critical, however, that anyone with COVID-19 symptoms quarantine and contact their healthcare provider for testing. Testing should include a PCR test (rapid test results are preliminary and not accepted as conclusive).
According to the CDC the most common symptoms are fever, dry cough, and tiredness. Other symptoms include body aches, sore throat, diarrhea, conjunctivitis, headache, and loss of taste or smell. If anyone in your household is experiencing any of these symptoms, then your child should not attend school and the symptomatic individual should seek health care services.
As always, please notify the school if your child is sick or absent.

ACS Switching To Virtual Learning For Two Weeks
February 9 – February 19
We are sending you this letter to let you know that a staff member has been diagnosed with COVID-19. As a result, we have been in close touch with our local and state health departments in order to formulate the best possible plan for the safety of our students and staff.
Fortunately our students are considered low risk for exposure due to the limited amount of time they spent near the individual with COVID. However, the health of our students is our top priority and we are taking every possible precaution to assure their safety. Along with our health professionals we have worked out a plan that will attain this goal.
For the remainder of the week (February 9th-12th), students and staff will operate remotely. The following week (February 15th-19th) will be virtual learning for all students. Tentatively, we will return to face-to-face instruction on February 22nd. If your child left their device at school, they can pick it up between noon-5pm tomorrow (Wednesday).
We understand this may be a hardship for families and is disruptive to student learning but the health and safety of our students and staff must come first.
We ask that you remain vigilant and continue to monitor your child’s health and the health of your family for COVID-19 symptoms. Our School Nurse, Mrs. Tiffany Bennett, asks that the school be notified anytime your child is sick. Parents should always report symptoms to nurse Bennett even though students are working from home. Please call her at 252-249-2599, ext. 1105 to re-port and/or if you have any questions. This information will be kept confidential.
Children with COVID-19 generally have mild, cold-like symptoms, such as fever, runny nose, and cough. Children with certain underlying medical conditions, such as chronic lung disease or moderate to severe asthma, serious heart conditions, or weak immune systems, might be at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19.
We will continue to utilize Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations for cleaning and disinfecting our school, to reduce viral transmission and keep our children and school personnel healthy and safe.
We know that staying at home for a prolonged period of time may be hard for you and your child but it is vital to help reduce the risk of transmission in our community. Your help and under-standing is appreciated.
We will continue to provide you with regular updates about the situation and will promptly notify you if we identify any additional confirmed COVID-19 cases. We encourage you to contact us with questions and concerns. Please visit our website and check our Facebook page for updates.
Chris Watson
Executive Director
